In the past Palm Tree regular Neil Hunt has been unlucky not ever catching any fish large enough to qualify him for any of the PTL BIG Fish Clubs. However, this was all about to change as he caught two of Palm Tree's monsters in successive days. Firstly, he saw the old year out catching a 330lb Mekong catfish on the 31st of December and then saw the new year in catching a 180lb Siamese carp on the 1st of January. In addition to this dream achievement he went on to catch a variety of other great fish that included a lot of new species for him such as tambaqui, chao phraya catfish, giant featherback, black shark minnow, Chinese bighead carp, Juliens golden price carp, wallago attu, catfish shark, arapaima, clown featherback, big-Y catfish, black ear catfish, Amazon redtail and more...
 
Colin Gawthorpe didn't just catch one t-shirt qualifying catfish after battling a 330lb Mekong for over two hours, but followed it up a couple of days later with a second even bigger 380lber. In addition to this more than awesome achievement he also completed the wallago double catching both wallago attu and wallago leeri, as well as many other great catches like arapaima, tambaqui, koi carp, pacu, parapatinga, vundu catfish, mollycot and more...
 
David Watmough was another angler to succeed in catching one of our recently stocked mega Mekongs joining the PTL BIG Catfish Club after a lengthy battle with an impressive 360lb+ Mekong catfish. In addition to this more than awesome catch he also caught a number of other great species that included arapiama, wallago attu, tambaqui, black shark minnow, rohu,  striped catfish, big-Y catfish, catfish shark, mollycot, as well as both Amazon and Asian redtail.
 
Return customer Jason Goodhand was back accompanied this time by fishing pal Paul Cully. Jason was well pleased after catching an awesome Siamese carp that added him to the ever expanding list of Palm Tree Lagoon 150lb Carp Club members. In addition to this superb catch they also caught arapaima, black shark minnow, and Amazon redtail.
 
Simon Clarke of Catfish-Pro came along with the legendary John Wilson for his first visit to Palm Tree and caught his biggest catfish to date in the form of a 180lb Mekong. He also caught a wallago attu a new species for him, a pb chao phraya catfish and Asian redtail.
 
Regular Nick Peat was back still chasing a 300lb+ Mekong catfish. Although not successful on this occasion he did catch a number of other great catches like Siamese carp, big-Y catfish, Mekong catfish, arapaima, wallago attu, striped catfish, pacu, crystal eyed catfish, mollycot, a huge catfish shark and some very chunky Amazon redtail.
 
As usual the guides were at it again catching a number of great catches that included Juliens golden price carp out of the Mae Klong river and releasing them in Palm Tree Lagoon, Siamese carp, Chinese bighead carp, Mekong catfish, arapaima, alligator gar, Amazon redtail, suckermouth catfish and more...
 
Steve Greenway's goal was to catch one of the 300lb+ Mekong catfish and with ten minutes to go on the final day he finally hooked into a big Mekong that after an epic hour and a half battle turned out to be exactly what he came for. John Wilson was on hand to congratulate him as he became a fellow member of the Palm Tree Lagoon BIG Catfish Club. In addition to this fantastic catch, he also caught a pb Juliens golden price carp, as well as wallago attu, striped catfish, and big-Y catfish all new species for him
 
Bangkok Fishing Guide Tap brought down one of his customers Giovanni Michaelis who was delighted with his catches the highlight of which was a t-shirt qualifying 380lb Mekong catfish caught on the very last afternoon of his session. Neil Hunt was back at Bung Sawan fishing with John Wilson and had a great time catching chao phraya catfish, Siamese carp, and Amazon redtail.
 
Another happy angler was Lewis Bastin who was well chuffed with his catches of arapaima, Mekong catfish and striped catfish.
 
Louis Charlesworth had literally only been at the lake for ten minutes when the Mekong rod screamed off and he was initiated into the Palm Tree Lagoon 300lb Catfish Club with a more than awesome 380lb specimen that took in excess of two hours to succumb. He also caught catfish shark, striped catfish. and Amazon redtail.
 
Uncle Terry Eustace was back and although the carp didn't want to come out and play on this occasion, he did catch a pb striped catfish, a number of good sized Mekong catfish and completed the wallago double comprising of a wallago attu and a wallago leeri which was a new species for him.
 
Dean Turner could not contain his delight with his successful entry into the Palm Tree Lagoon 300lb Catfish Club after a lengthy battle with a 330lb Mekong Catfish. In addition to this magnificent catch he was also well pleased with his other catches of wallago attu, Chinese bighead carp, catfish shark, and Amazon redtail.
 
Lee Funge and his fishing mate Paul Armstrong were having a slow day until Lee hooked into a monstrous Mekong catfish which he successfully landed after a prolonged battle, and joined the Palm Tree Lagoon BIG Catfish Club in the process. Paul also caught a smaller Mekong and a Siamese carp to round off the day nicely.
 
Brad Laing topped off what had been a slow session in dramatic style by becoming the first angler to land a 400lb Mekong catfish which of course also qualified him for the Palm Tree Lagoon BIG Catfish Club. Catmaster Tours head guide John Deakin who was talking incessantly in the vicinity gave him a hand to lift up the monster catfish for the trophy shot.He also caught Amazon redtail catfish, and promised to return very soon.
 
Steve Campbell seemed more than happy with his string of catches that included wallago attu, Mekong catfish, African walking catfish, catfish shark, black shark minnow, big-Y catfish, as well as both Thai and Amazon redtails.
 
Regular 'black country' boy Anthony Norton was back catching a pb Siamese carp, as well as Mekong catfish, big-Y catfish and a rarely caught koi carp.
 
John Gibson was another angler who visited for the first time during the month, catching Siamese carp, clown featherback as well as both Amazon and Thai redtail.
 
Fishing guide Plathong from Thailand Fishing Friends brought along a couple of clients one of whom successfully joined the 300lb BIG Catfish Club with an awesome 330lber that took over two hours to subdue. In addition to this they caught a number of other great catches that included African walking catfish, a stunning alligator gar, Siamese carp, big-Y catfish, wallago attu, Amazon redtail and more...
 
The ever smiling Paul Muir and Kyle Robinson were back catching some nice catches like giant snakehead, Mekong catfish, alligator gar, as well as both Amazon and Asian redtail.
 
Graham 'Whinger' Wall was very enthusiastic about his first visit and at first seemed all smiles with his catches of a magnificent Chinese bighead carp and mollycot which were both new species for him, as well as alligator gar, pacu, and Amazon redtail. Then late in the afternoon after loosing a big Mekong catfish after a lengthy battle on a carp setup started to complain about absolutely everything. Things deteriorated rapidly from there and despite being given a new set of rods and reels (not that there was anything wrong with the ones he already had) with twenty minutes to go finally threw the last of the toys out of the cot and started shouting at the guides how he wasn't going to turn up for the last two days and vowed that he would never return. Well you can't please everyone and as my good friend John Wilson always says 'there's nowt as queer as folk'.
 
Travel guide Jaran Khothong brought down a couple of tourists during the month who caught alligator gar, catfish shark and Amazon redtail.
 
Jim Walters returned this time accompanied by Darren Highway and between them they caught a number of Mekong catfish, as well as yellow catfish, alligator gar, striped catfish and Amazon redtail.
 
Johan Englund returned after a three year absence this time with his two boys and between them after a lengthy joint effort two hour battle they joined the PTL 300lb Catfish Club with a stunning Mekong catfish.
 
Chris Turner and his two fishing mates were already planning there returning after an enjoyable visit topped off by them catching a more than awesome 380lb Mekong catfish which automatically propelled them into the Palm Tree Lagoon BIG Catfish Club.In addition to this they also caught wallago attu, catfish shark, striped catfish and Amazon redtail.
 
Reimund Muller also returned and this time finally caught himself a t-shirt qualifier in the form of an awesome Mekong catfish as well as his fishing buddy catching a stunning African walking catfish.
 
Sean Healy was back only a month after his last visit and was well pleased with his chao phraya catfish and Mekong catfish.
 
Despite the abhorrent weather, between ducking for cover John Deakin was well pleased with his Amazon redtail.
 
Kevin Sanchez and his fishing friend vowed to return next year after an enjoyable experience catching wallago attu, Big-Y catfish and Asian redtail. 
 
Lawrence Howlett was all smiles with his catches of chao phraya catfish and Mekong catfish.
 
Mikko Jaavinen and his fishing mate were very unlucky not to land a large Atlantic tarpon that unfortunately tail walked across the lake throwing the hook in the process, however they did catch Mekong catfish, vundu catfish and striped catfish.
 
Lee Dunkerley seemed delighted with his catches of Mekong catfish, alligator gar and Amazon redtail.
 
Another newcomer Richard Doraisamy was happy with his catch of a tambaqui.
